Obtaining a Mississippi Driver's License
Steps to Get Your License

Required Documents:

  1. Valid Passport and copy of the photo page of your passport
  2. I-20 or DS-2019 (formerly IAP-66) and copy
  3. I-94 and copy
  4. Proof of Physical Address (not PO Box. Valid proof of Physical Address includes: lease or rental agreement, car registration receipt, or an electric or water bill.
  5. Social Security card must be presented IF applicant has one.
  6. A document, signed by an Office of International Programs staff member verifying your affiliation with the University of Mississippi.

The license will be issued for one year at a cost of $10. It is annually renewable provided that the individual maintains eligibility for issuance.

PLEASE NOTE: LIABILITY INSURANCE IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI IS REQUIRED. IT IS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI WITHOUT AUTO INSURANCE.

To earn the drivers license one must pass the written and driving portions of the test. The tests are administered by the Mississippi Drivers License Testing and Renewal Center in Oxford, MS.

Drivers License Testing Center 236-2066 Take highway 7 south out of Oxford. The testing center is on the right hand side about two miles out of town. There is a sign that reads Drivers License Station.

Hours of operation: Written Testing 8:30-11; 1:30-4:30 M-F (4 on Fridays) Road Testing 9:30-11; 2-4 M-F
